What da Fracos? What da Fröcc? …new eatery at Town Square puts twist on traditional taco and fruit drink LAS VEGAS ( June 29, 2012) - A new eatery is open at Town Square that offers healthy eats and delicious treats created from a fusion of ingredients and cooking techniques from around the world. Fracos & Fröccs features healthy alternatives to traditional tacos and soft drinks, along with a selection of sweet treats on the menu, according to owner Guy Girardin.
Fracos resemble tacos and are made in a variety of unique and flavorful ways. Savory versions use Mu Shu pancakes as a lower fat and lower calorie alternative to tortillas. Fillings include grilled chicken, roast beef, pulled pork, roast turkey and stuffing and more.
Sweet versions use either a traditional crepe as a soft shell or a shell similar in texture to a waffle cone for a crispy version. Indulge in fillings such as Nutella, cheesecake or pastry cream, then load up on fresh fruit toppings from a selection of eight of the best offerings of the season. A variety of salads are on the menu and will change frequently, including a cucumber, strawberry, mint and yogurt salad, a dish with carrot, orange, cilantro and sultana raisin as well as garlic coleslaw and a roasted Mediterranean vegetable salad.
Fröccs, a drink in Central Europe made with wine, features 100 percent fruit juice along with a scoop of fresh fruit, ice and seltzer to create a natural and nutritious alternative to soft drinks.
Girardin said the original concept of Fracos & Fröccs began as a traditional creperie but as he began to develop the menu he found various healthier alternatives.
“I sympathize with the growing problem of childhood obesity and its associated health risks, and I want to offer some healthy options for people when they are on the go,” Girardin said. “Bread and soda are large sources of calories in the typical North American diet so by replacing bread and soda with mu shu pancakes and fruit juices I am offering people a great tasting alternative.”
Girardin brought together food concepts from the UK, Northern China, France, Hungary, the United States and Canada to develop the menu. His culinary team includes chef Rhys Owen, who recently moved to Las Vegas from the UK where he oversaw a team of seven chefs at a Bistro in Huddersfield, U.K. Owen specializes in modern European cuisine and prepares all the mousses, creams and cheesecake fillings at Fracos & Fröccs from scratch. In addition, Beatrix Castenada, a figure in the Las Vegas restaurant industry for nine years, has joined Fracos & Fröccs where she will train front counter personnel and collaborate with Owen to provide a diverse menu selection. She continues to further her education in Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
While Fracos & Fröccs offers several healthy options, it does not disappoint when you want to indulge in a sweet treat. One of the favorites is the Pineapple Delight, made with buttercream, pineapple, whipped cream and graham crumbs in a soft shell.
Fracos & Fröccs is located across from Town Square Park along the shaded walkway to Rave Motion Pictures. It is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. |
